Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intelligence officers have arrested media activist Hamdan Hasouba in Al-Daein, East Darfur State, over social media posts alleging corruption in the redevelopment of a public parking area, sources close to him said.
Sources told Darfur24 that Hasouba was arrested on Monday after publishing posts on his Facebook page criticizing plans to convert the “Zariba” parking area inside Al-Daein’s main market into commercial units, alleging the project was linked to corruption.
His arrest prompted widespread condemnation from residents, journalists, and civil society activists in East Darfur, who launched a campaign on Facebook calling for his immediate release.
The campaign’s organizers said the arrest undermines freedom of expression and the public’s right to scrutinize allegations of corruption and demand transparency.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over restrictions on freedom of expression in areas under RSF control.
In April, RSF intelligence officers arrested journalist Mohamed Saleh Al-Bashar after he criticized a decision regulating commission fees on transfers from the Bank of Khartoum’s “Bankak” application to cash services in a WhatsApp group. He was subsequently detained at an RSF detention facility in Al-Daein.
