Al-Abyad, October 29 (Darfur24)
The Um Dam Haj Ahmed locality in North Kordofan State has seen a new wave of mass displacement, with the UN estimating that between 24,000 and 26,000 people fled their homes in recent days due to escalating insecurity.
In a report issued Tuesday, the United Nations Field Tracking Teams (DTM) estimated that between 24,075 and 26,575 citizens have been displaced from various locations within the locality.
The report explained that most of the displaced people came from the city of Um Dam Haj Ahmed, where between 22,500 and 25,000 citizens left, while about 1,575 citizens were displaced from the neighboring village of Al-Kuwaimat.
The report indicated that this wave of displacement comes following the announcement by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Monday that they had taken control of the Um Dam Haj Ahmed area in North Kordofan state, after battles with the Sudanese army.
The UN said repeated displacement cases were recorded in the localities of Al-Rahad, Bara, and Umm Ruwaba between October 26 and 28.
Field tracking teams predicted that the mass movements would continue in the coming days towards Omdurman and Al-Duwaim locality in the White Nile State, with increasing fears of a widening humanitarian crisis if it is not contained quickly.
The teams confirmed that the situation in Um Dam Haj Ahmed locality remains tense and unstable, noting that field conditions are changing rapidly and that their teams continue to closely monitor developments, in preparation for providing more information on the conditions of displaced persons and population movement in the various states of Sudan.
