Local sources and eyewitnesses in the city of Mellit, located approximately 65 kilometers north of El Fasher, North Darfur State, reported that a drone hit government institutions and residential neighborhoods in the city on Friday, resulting in deaths and injuries.
The city of Mellit has been under the control of the Rapid Support Forces RSF since April 2024, following violent clashes with the joint force affiliated with armed movements allied with the Sudanese army, which ended with the latter’s withdrawal from the area.
Eyewitness Muhyiddin Abdullah Adam told Darfur 24 that the drone carried out more than four attacks on neighborhoods south of the market and the livestock market.
He indicated that the bombing resulted in the partial destruction of the police and the locality headquarters, while thick columns of smoke could be seen rising.
A local source, who preferred to remain anonymous for security converns , revealed to Darfur 24 that a number of RSF soldiers deployed at the police station and the the locality headquarters were killed, including a RSF commander nicknamed “Kaboos,” along with his personal securty team. Several combat vehicles belonging to the forces were also destroyed.
Darfur 24 was unable to obtain official confirmation from RSF regarding any casualties or material damage among its forces.
A medical staff member at Mellit Hospital denied that any civilian casualties had been admitted to the hospital until Friday evening.
