Um Dafuq, October 27 (Darfur24)

A reconciliation conference between tribes living along the Sudan–Central African Republic (CAR) border began on Sunday in Amdafok, CAR, following recent deadly violence in the region.

The conference brings together the Kara tribe from the CAR and the Ta’aisha tribe from Sudan. The opening session was held on Sunday, while discussions and deliberations are scheduled to continue on Monday.

The border region has recently witnessed violent clashes between the two tribes, resulting in dozens of deaths and the displacement of hundreds of Sudanese families from areas inside the Central African Republic to Um Dafuq, in South Darfur State, where they now face dire humanitarian conditions.

Local authorities in the CAR have urged Sudanese herders not to cross the border until the reconciliation conference concludes. The restriction has led to a large accumulation of livestock in the Umm Dafuq area.

Each year in October, Sudanese herders traditionally begin their seasonal migration into the Central African Republic in search of pasture and water.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Sudanese farmers are engaged in extensive agricultural activities along the border region between the two countries.
