Nyala, November 19 (Darfur24)
A volunteer with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society was shot dead by her fiancé, who then took his own life with the same weapon, in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State.
Sources told Darfur24 that a dispute broke out between the victim, Mariam Abdelrahman Suku, and her fiancé, an affiliate of the Rapid Support Forces, over her planned travel to El Fasher on an official humanitarian mission.
A relative of the victim said she was recently engaged and was preparing for her wedding. She had informed her husband of her assignment to El Fasher as part of a Red Crescent team supporting displaced families after the Rapid Support Forces took control of the city last October, according to the relative.
The relative added that the husband objected to her travel and shot her, killing her instantly, then turned the gun on himself. He also fired at another relative who witnessed the incident, but the person managed to hide behind a wall and was not injured.
Second Incident in Kalma Camp
Separately, a farmer in Kalma displacement camp, located about 10 kilometers southeast of Nyala, reported being shot and robbed by armed men earlier this week.
The farmer, Ahmed Abkar Adam, told Darfur24 that two men approached him on his farm asking for water, then threatened him and demanded his horse. When he refused, they shot him and fled with the horse.
Locals transported him to a nearby health center, and a police report was filed at the Bilel police station.
