Al-Obayed – Darfur 24

The Emergency Group said on Saturday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)launched an attack on Thursday on the villages of Markaz al-Ziyadiya and Lamina al-Ziyadiya, south of the Umm Kuraydam area in North Kordofan State, killing 18 civilians and wounding dozens.

In a statement obtained by Darfur 24, it indicated that RSF committed widespread violations during the attack, including the abuse of civilians, the looting of property, and the abduction of dozens of young men.

The Emergency Lawyers Group condemned this crime, stressing that civilians who carry weapons inside their villages for self-defense purposes remain protected under international humanitarian law unless they directly participate in hostilities. However, targeting them constitutes a grave violation that amounts to a war crime.

The group held RSF responsible for targeting civilians and called on them to halt these attacks, investigate, and bring those responsible for these crimes to justice before international justice mechanisms.

For its part, the National Umma Party, , said that RSF stormed the village of Markaz in the Umm Kuraydam countryside of Bara locality in North Kordofan, killing 16 civilians, wounding 30, and leaving others missing.

It accused RSF of carrying out a forced displacement campaign that affected more than 15 villages, as a result of a series of heinous violations and horrific crimes that continue to be committed against civilians in the area.
