Abu Matariq, July 26(Darfur 24)
A refugee from South Sudan was killed by unknown gunmen inside his house in Abu Matariq refugee camp in East Darfur State.
Eyewitness David Dodd told Darfur 24 that refugee Long Kuol, a resident of Abu Matariq refugee camp, was killed by four unidentified armed men on Thursday evening.
He indicated that the victim was shot four times and died on spot.
He stated that the incident sparked widespread condemnation among the refugees, who demanded that the native administration and the civil administration address such incidents, which recur from time to time in the camp.
He explained that the camp administrations demanded that the local government and the native administration conduct an urgent investigation and arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible.
East Darfur State is home to several refugee camps from South Sudan in the areas of Al Daein, Abu Matariq, Adila, Abu Karinka, and Al Fardous, where they are subjected to violations by unknown gunmen during the ongoing war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
The Rapid Support Forces have controlled East Darfur State since November 2023 and have formed civil administrations to manage public affairs, in addition to a police force (federal police ) to protect civilians.
