Two Sudanese refugees were seriously injured after being shot inside the Abunge refugee camp in eastern Chad, following an attempt by unidentified gunmen to loot a shop inside the camp.
Abunge refugee camp is located 27 kilometers south of the Chadian city of Adre and is one of the largest camps housing Sudanese refugees fleeing conflict zones in Sudan, housing more than 45,000 families.
Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that an armed group attempted to rob a store located in the heart of the camp. When a number of refugees attempted to confront them, the gunmen opened fire, seriously wounding two people.
The eyewitnesses explained that the injured were transferred to a health center within the camp for treatment, while Chadian authorities launched a comprehensive investigation to identify the perpetrators.
According to the witnesses, this incident is not the first of its kind. The camp has recently witnessed a number of similar attacks, raising widespread concerns among refugees about their safety and security.
