Nyala, September 24 (Darfur24)

Civil society efforts by the Zaghawa tribe have secured the release of more than 15 detainees from Zamzam camp and Nyala city, according to community leaders. The group had been held at the Dagris detention center, about 20 kilometers southwest of Nyala, South Darfur.

A Zaghawa tribal leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Darfur24 that mediation led by the tribe’s Shura Council—working in coordination with the civil administration and Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—resulted in the release on Tuesday of several detainees, including more than six minors. The children were arrested after RSF fighters seized control of Zamzam camp in April, while others had been detained in Nyala in recent months.

The released detainees were reported to be in good health and have been transferred to Al-Radwan School in Nyala’s Al-Jir neighborhood, where they are awaiting collection by their families.

The source added that those released were required to swear an oath not to divulge information, participate in activities against the RSF, or cooperate with rival groups.

The names of the released detainees include: Adel Saleh Dafallah Qardiya, Mujahid Ibrahim Adam Khater, Abu Al-Qasim Khamis Abdullah, Abdul Aziz Ibrahim Al-Nour, Hamid Mohammed Ishaq Ramadan, Ahmed Ibrahim Abdel Daim, Mohammed Ibrahim Jalba Idris, Amer Hamid Abkar Mohammed, Omar Abdullah Abkar, Mubarak Mukhtar Mohammed, Mubarak Hassan Abdullah, Abdullah Hassan Haroun, Muawiya Mohammed Adam Dabo, Mohammed Adam Suleiman, Mohammed Al-Hajj Taban Ibrahim, and Yasser Ahmed Mohammed Juma.
