The Humanitarian Aid Commission in Northern State announced the death of 17 intenally displaced persons (IDPs) out of 41 who got lost in the desert while traveling from the Sudanese border town of Tina in North Darfur State to Ad-Dabba in Northern State.

The Commission stated in a brief post on its official Facebook page, seen by Darfur24, that information received indicates that the group that got lost in the desert included 41 IDPs, including 13 children.

The Commission indicated that the bodies and a number of other cases were transferred to the military hospital in Dongola, in preparation for burial procedures.

In a related development, Ibrahim Balhassan, head of the health emergency room in the Libyan municipality of Kufra, said on Thursday that he received a distress call from a Sudanese woman who reported that contact had been lost with a vehicle carrying 28 Sudanese refugees. The vehicle was traveling from Libya to Sudan via Chad. Balhassan explained on his Facebook page that he had contacted the relevant authorities in the Kufra municipality to launch search operations in the desert between the two countries.
