El.Nuhood, May 12(Darfur 24)

The International Organization for Migration, a United Nations agency, revealed on Monday that 7,000 families have fled Nahud and Al-Khawi in West Kordofan State due to worsening insecurity.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked the city of ElNuhood in early May, seizing control of it the following day after the army withdrew to Al-Khawi, which the RSF seized. The RSF then recaptured the city on Monday.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in a statement obtained by Darfur24 that 7,204 families were displaced from Nahud and El Khawi between May 1 and 2 due to worsening insecurity.

It noted that many of those fleeing were internally displaced and were subjected to secondary displacement.

It reported that clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in Nahud led to the displacement of 5,451 families to locations within Nahud locality, and to the localities of Ghabish, Wad Banda, Al Salam, and West Bara.

The organization explained that the fighting in El Khawi led to the flight of 1,678 families, while attacks on the village of Al Sirdaba in El Khawi locality led to the displacement of 75 families.

Clashes are expected to continue in West Kordofan in the coming days, following the army’s recapture of El Khawi and its advance to locations near El Nuhood.
