Eyewitnesses and medical sources confirmed on Thursday that at least 10 civilians were killed as Rapid Support Forces( RSF) continued artillery shelling of the Abu Shouk neighborhood in El Fasher, North Darfur.
Nizar Yousef, an activist in the Abu Shouk neighborhood, told Darfur 24 that the artillery shelling occurred on Wednesday, killing at least 10 people, including a woman and her two daughters, at the Ali bin Abi Talib School shelter for displaced people.
Among the dead were also a man in front of the airport mosque in the Nasr neighborhood and six displaced people in the Abu Shouk camp. He noted that seven others were injured with varying degrees of severity, and three water sources in the camp were destroyed.
A medical source in the Medical Corps confirmed to Darfur 24 that the hospital received a number of wounded, including civilians, as a result of the artillery shelling launched by the Rapid Support Forces on Wednesday against residential neighborhoods and army positions.
Meanwhile, clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces resumed Thursday morning in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, according to eyewitnesses and military sources.
Military sources told Darfur 24 that the Rapid Support Forces launched a violent attack on army positions in the northeastern axis this morning, but their forces were able to repel the attack.
An eyewitness confirmed that the northeastern axis of the city witnessed a violent artillery exchange between the army and the Rapid Support Forces this Thursday morning. It is unknown whether there were any civilian casualties.
For its part, the Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher confirmed in a Facebook post that clashes renewed in the northeastern axis, but army forces resisted the attack. They then warned citizens to exercise caution and control movement.
The Rapid Support Forces have been launching attacks on El Fasher since May 10 in an attempt to seize the last army stronghold in the city.
