Al-Silik, April 9(Darfur 24)

Army spokesman Nabil Abdullah announced on Tuesday the recapture of the Al-Silik area in Bau County in Blue Nile State.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, both part of the Sudan Founding Alliance, had seized the Al-Silik area last March.

Abdullah said the army inflicted heavy losses in lives and equipment on the RSF and the SPLM.

The governor of Blue Nile State, Ahmed Al-Omda, confirmed the recapture of the area in a post on his Facebook page.

He stressed that the government is committed to clearing all areas of the region of the Rapid Support Forces and their supporters.

He added: “The Fourth Infantry Division and the supporting forces from the SPLA and the Popular Resistance succeeded in clearing the entire Al-Silik area in the western part of the state after a battle that resulted in the destruction of coalition military equipment.”

The Sudan Founding Alliance forces continue to control the Oulu and Melken areas in Bau County, which borders the republic of South Sudan.
