Authorities in Sudan’s Blue Nile region have seized about 50 motorcycles in Damazin and Al-Rusayris since a nighttime movement ban came into effect, prompting complaints from owners over the enforcement of the measure.
The governor of Blue Nile issued the decision on September 23, banning motorcycles from operating in the two cities between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. Violators face up to three months in prison or a fine of 500,000 Sudanese pounds.
A military source told Darfur24 that the security cell had seized about 50 motorcycles since the decision was implemented.
Several motorcycle owners complained about the enforcement of the ban, with some describing the treatment during impoundment operations as humiliating and calling for authorities to follow legal procedures.
The owners also said some motorists were unaware of the details of the decision and called for wider public awareness before penalties are imposed.
They said motorcycles are a vital means of transportation and livelihood, particularly for farmers and fishermen who rely on them to reach their workplaces and transport goods to and from outlying areas.
The owners called for clearer guidance on the ban and its enforcement procedures, while urging authorities to ensure that arrests and impoundments comply with the law and respect the dignity of those affected.
