Drone attacks on cities in North Kordofan, River Nile, and Khartoum states killed two people and injured six others on Wednesday, according to medical and local sources and eyewitnesses. An army source said more than 20 drones were shot down during the attacks.
In El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan, heavy drone strikes killed a woman and a judiciary employee and injured six others, including two critically, according to medical sources.
A medical source at El Obeid Teaching Hospital said the facility received two bodies and six injured people. Local sources said the attacks targeted the city market and centre, including areas around the Farmers Bank and the western market.
Following the attacks, the North Kordofan judiciary suspended its operations indefinitely, while traders closed shops in El Obeid market. Some schools were also evacuated, although no official announcement was made suspending classes.
In River Nile State, drones targeted Atbara and Damar, triggering explosions and anti-aircraft fire. A resident of Atbara said the strikes did not hit targets inside the city, although some drones fell in an agricultural project outside the city.
In Khartoum State, drones targeted Khartoum North and Omdurman. Local sources said some strikes targeted army positions north of Omdurman. Residents of Khartoum North reported explosions in several areas, particularly Darushab, where debris from a drone reportedly fell inside a mosque.
An army source told Darfur24 that anti-aircraft units shot down more than 15 drones over Khartoum, four in River Nile State, and two in North Kordofan.
The source said damage was limited relative to the scale of the attacks and the number of drones involved.
