Four people were killed and seven others injured on Wednesday after an armed man allegedly affiliated with one of the armed movements backing the joint force supporting the Sudanese army opened fire in Al-Rahad, North Kordofan, according to four local sources.

A local source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Darfur24 that the gunman opened fire without warning in the western section of Al-Rahad market, about 79 kilometers east of El Obeid.

The attack killed four people at the scene and wounded seven others, some of them critically.

Police and army forces later arrested the suspect and placed him in custody before transferring him to El Obeid to face legal proceedings, the source said.

A medical source at El Obeid Teaching Hospital told Darfur24 that the hospital received seven wounded people from Al-Rahad, including two in critical condition.

The dead were identified as Ezz El-Din Moussa Mohamed Batran, Mahmoud Ahmed, trader Ahmed Ali Ahmed Al-Bashir, and Abdel Salam Al-Bakri Al-Nadhir.

The injured were identified as Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Mustafa Mohamed Musa, Mustafa Mahmoud, Musa Jamal, Imad Musa Mohamed Batran, Jaafar Abdullah Saleh, and Othman Ali.

Darfur24 was unable to obtain comment from the joint force regarding the incident, while the North Kordofan state government had not issued a statement explaining the circumstances or motive behind the shooting.
