Damazin, July 09 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese army announced on Wednesday that it had recaptured the city of Kurmuk in Blue Nile State after more than three months under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement, the General Command of the Armed Forces announced that the army and allied forces had recaptured the city following battles with the RSF and its allies.
The army said RSF forces suffered losses in personnel and equipment. It also said its forces seized weapons and military vehicles. The statement did not provide casualty figures or details of the losses.
According to the statement, the remaining RSF fighters withdrew from the city. The army said its next priority would be protecting civilians, restoring basic services and creating conditions for the return of normal life.
The army also praised residents of Kurmuk and surrounding areas for what it described as their resilience during the period of RSF control.
It said military operations would continue until the defeat of the RSF and the restoration of government control across Sudan.
Blue Nile State has witnessed repeated clashes involving the Sudanese army, the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), triggering repeated displacement and worsening humanitarian conditions.
