Damazin, May 18 (Darfur24)

The Sudanese army announced on Monday that it had regained control of the Karn Karn and Dukan areas in southeastern Blue Nile State following clashes with an alliance comprising the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

In a statement, the command of the 4th Infantry Division said the military operation was conducted according to what it described as carefully prepared field plans, resulting in the recapture of the two strategic areas and the infliction of heavy losses on opposing forces in personnel and equipment.

The statement added that army forces destroyed and targeted several military positions and pieces of equipment belonging to the opposing side, which it said weakened their combat capabilities in the region.

The army stated it continues to advance on multiple operational fronts as part of efforts to secure strategic areas, protect civilians, and restore stability in the Blue Nile region.

Blue Nile State has witnessed a recent escalation in fighting amid ongoing clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF and allied groups.

The violence has displaced more than 50,000 people from the localities of Kurmuk, Baw, and Qaysan.

According to statistics released at the end of March, the Blue Nile region hosts approximately 361,000 displaced people living across 252 locations in seven localities.
