Blue Nile, May 18 (Darfur24)

Field teams from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Sunday a new wave of mass displacement in Sudan’s Blue Nile region following renewed insecurity in the area.

In a statement, the organization said approximately 3,860 people, representing 772 families, were displaced from the villages of Khor Hassan and Abiju in Kurmuk locality due to the deteriorating security situation.

According to the IOM, the displaced families moved toward Qaysan locality within the same state, while conditions in the area remain highly tense and volatile.

On May 12, the IOM reported that 49,512 people had been displaced from the localities of Kurmuk, Baw, and Qaysan since the escalation of the conflict that began on January 11.

The organization stated that 25,630 of those displaced had fled to Damazin, while the remainder were distributed across locations in Baw, Qaysan, Al-Rusayris, Kurmuk, Wad Al-Mahi, and Al-Tadamun.

According to statistics released at the end of March, the Blue Nile region hosts approximately 361,000 displaced people living across 252 locations in seven localities.
