Kartala, May 15 (Darfur24)
Humanitarian aid trucks carrying relief supplies to the cities of Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan State have returned to El Obeid after waiting for more than a month in the Kartala area of Habila locality due to the continued closure of the Habila–Dilling road amid ongoing fighting in the region.
Mohammed Abkar, a government employee, told Darfur24 that more than ten trucks loaded with humanitarian assistance had remained stranded in Kartala village while drivers waited for authorities to reopen the route.
He said the convoy attempted to move forward following the Sudanese army’s latest effort to secure and reopen the road, but the trucks were unable to reach Dilling or Kadugli and were eventually forced to return to El Obeid.
The disruption comes as military operations intensify across South Kordofan. Last week, violent clashes erupted in the village of Al-Tukma, east of Dilling, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.
Al-Tukma lies about 14 kilometers east of Dilling and is linked through secondary roads to Habila, Al-Rahad Abu Dakna and other parts of South Kordofan.
Residents of Dilling have faced worsening humanitarian conditions since March due to the ongoing siege, artillery shelling, and drone attacks, alongside the collapse of health services after Dilling Teaching Hospital was put out of service following a drone strike earlier this year.
