El Fasher, April 22 (Darfur24)

The International Organization for Migration’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) reported on Wednesday that approximately 115 people were displaced from Damra al-Qubba in Al-Waha locality, North Darfur State, last Sunday due to escalating insecurity.

In its latest report on displacement in Sudan, reviewed by Darfur24, the DTM said those affected moved to various locations within El-Fasher locality, without specifying exact destinations. It added that the situation remains highly tense and continues to evolve rapidly.

While the report did not cite a specific cause for the displacement, eyewitnesses and local sources told Darfur24 that a unit of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out a large-scale arrest campaign in Damra al-Qubba. The operation targeted several young men and elders, who were taken to an unknown location following the defection of the unit’s commander to the Sudanese army.

According to sources, the force used a pre-prepared list of names and fired shots into the air during the arrests, triggering panic among residents.

Ibrahim Siddiq, a community leader from Kutum, told Darfur24 that residents fled toward rural areas surrounding El-Fasher.

He said the arrests were reportedly linked to suspicions that some residents had ties to Brigadier General Al-Nour Al-Qubba, who recently defected from the RSF and joined the Sudanese army.

The Sudanese Revolutionary Awakening Council announced last Sunday that the defecting commander, Major General Al-Nur Ahmed Adam, known as “Al-Qubba,” had reached areas under army control. He was reportedly accompanied by several officers and soldiers, as well as military equipment and vehicles.

Major General Al-Nour Al-Qubba is said to have defected from the RSF about a week ago, leaving his base in Al-Qubba area of Al-Waha locality for an unknown destination, amid speculation at the time that he intended to join the Sudanese army.
