Sarf Umra, March 26 (Darfur24)

Drone strikes believed to have been carried out by the Sudanese army hit multiple sites in the town of Sarf Umra in North Darfur on Wednesday, leaving civilians and military personnel dead and injured, according to eyewitnesses and local sources.

A medical source reported that casualties were recorded, but the final figures are still being compiled. Darfur24 was unable to independently verify the toll.

Azzaldin Ali, an eyewitness, said the drone targeted the local government headquarters, a fuel tanker, and the town’s main market, with explosions heard across the area and smoke rising from the affected sites.

A trader in the market reported significant human and material losses, with several people killed or injured and more than six shops destroyed, in addition to partial damage to others.

The Rapid Support Forces accused the Sudanese army of carrying out the attack, describing it as part of “systematic bombing operations against civilians,” and said recent strikes have targeted markets and residential areas in Darfur and Kordofan.

The RSF added that the attack follows recent incidents, including the bombing of Al-Daein Teaching Hospital and strikes in other regions of Darfur and Kordofan that have caused hundreds of casualties.

Since April 2023, Sudan has witnessed ongoing fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, with drones increasingly used in attacks on civilian and military targets.
