Kurmuk. March 23 (Darfur24)
About 1,000 people have been displaced from areas around Kurmuk in Blue Nile State to the city of Damazin following escalating military operations, according to Al Jazeera Human Rights Monitor.
The group said most of the displaced are women and children, including injured individuals suffering from burns and amputations due to indiscriminate shelling. They are currently sheltering in more than ten camps and temporary sites in Damazin.
Clashes have been ongoing since Friday, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr, with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North, allied with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) under the “TASIS” alliance, claiming control of areas near the strategic town of Kurmuk.
The monitor expressed concern over the escalation and urged all parties to protect civilians, avoid targeting civilian infrastructure, and respect international humanitarian law.
