Adikong, March 13 (Darfur24)

Four people were killed and 23 civilians, including women and children, were injured in a drone strike that targeted a fuel depot in the Adikong border market near Chad, west of El Geneina in West Darfur State, according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

The organization said the strike, which it attributed to the Sudanese armed forces, triggered large explosions in the fuel market, causing casualties among civilians who were present at the site at the time of the attack.

Gado Mahmoudou, head of MSF’s mission in Chad, said the hospital supported by the organization in the Chadian city of Adré has so far received 23 injured civilians, including four women and seven children under the age of fifteen.

He added that the number of injured increased rapidly within a short period. “The hospital we support in Adré has received 23 injured civilians so far, and the number rose from five to 23 cases in less than one hour,” he said.

The strike marks the second attack on the Adikong area in less than a month, amid a rise in drone strikes across western Darfur.

Doctors Without Borders renewed its call on all parties to the conflict to respect their legal and moral obligations to protect civilians, warning against the continued targeting of civilian areas in Sudan’s ongoing war.
