Kadugli, March 09 (Darfur24)
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, on Sunday accused the Sudanese army of carrying out a drone strike on a market in the town of Jald in South Kordofan, killing a senior female leader of the movement and several civilians, including women and children.
In a statement obtained by Darfur24, the movement said the attack targeted the “Mundari” market in the town of Jald, an area under its control in South Kordofan State.
The statement mourned Hanem Ibrahim Raqiq, who served as governor of the Dilling district within the movement’s civilian administration, saying she was killed in the bombing, which the group said was carried out by a drone belonging to the Sudanese army.
According to the statement, the strike hit the market while large numbers of civilians were present, killing at least 17 people, including women and children, and injuring several others.
The movement said the victims included eight women and six children, along with several elderly people. The wounded were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The conflict in Sudan, which has been ongoing for nearly three years, has recently intensified in the Kordofan region, where several areas have witnessed drone attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians.
