The United Nations has expressed grave concern over escalating violence in Kordofan and Blue Nile states, warning that ongoing fighting is harming civilians and obstructing the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said drone attacks have intensified in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, since last Friday, citing local sources.
He added that the Sudanese Doctors Network reported damage to a medical facility on Sunday, with 12 people injured, including five medical personnel.
Dujarric also noted that continued clashes in South Kordofan, particularly in and around Dilling, as well as fighting along key supply routes, are disrupting commercial transport and humanitarian operations.
In Blue Nile state, the town of Kurmuk has faced intense drone attacks over the past two weeks. Reports indicate that a school was destroyed and a power station damaged.
According to the UN, around 1,000 families have fled Kurmuk to Damazin due to ongoing insecurity.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs described the humanitarian situation as dire, saying many people urgently require assistance. The office said it is working with partners to scale up aid delivery to affected communities as much as possible.
