Korma, February 20 (Darfur24)

Health authorities and residents in the Korma administrative unit of North Darfur State have raised alarm following a sudden surge in cases of an unidentified illness, amid limited medical resources and growing fears of a potential outbreak.

A health source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Darfur24 that local health centers received dozens of patients in a single day, with numbers increasing steadily amid a severe shortage of medical supplies and the absence of diagnostic testing capacity.

In a related development, a medical source from Médecins Sans Frontières confirmed to Darfur24 that cases of a previously unidentified illness had been recorded in the Korma administrative unit. Still, it did not disclose further details about the suspected disease.

The source added that UNICEF, in coordination with partners, is preparing to conduct an urgent field assessment to determine the nature of the illness and implement containment measures.

The reports follow earlier alerts last week about a mysterious disease affecting scattered communities approximately 72 kilometers north of El Fasher, heightening fears of a broader outbreak amid fragile health services across the region.
