Al-Daein, February 12 (Darfur24)
A dispute between South Sudanese refugees inside a camp in East Darfur State escalated into a fire that killed four people and injured four others, most of them children, according to local officials.
An official at Hilal camp, east of Al-Daein, told Darfur24 that a fight broke out between two refugees inside the camp in the Hilal area of Abu Karnka locality. He said one of the men involved was initially arrested but later escaped custody and allegedly set fire to the other man’s home later that night.
The fire broke out at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, resulting in four deaths and leaving four others injured.
The camp’s sultan, who requested anonymity, said the injured were transferred to a hospital in Abu Karnka for treatment. He added that police were notified of the incident and later apprehended the suspect.
East Darfur State hosts thousands of South Sudanese refugees living in camps in Al-Daein, as well as in the localities of Bahr al-Arab, Al-Firdous, Adila, and Abu Karnka.
