Al-Dabba, February 07 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society in Al-Dabba, Northern State, announced on Tuesday the launch of food relief distributions for displaced people from the Darfur and Kordofan regions, with support from the World Food Programme (WFP).
Al-Dabba’s Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Kawthar Jaafar Qili, stated in press releases that the WFP has played a key role in supporting the locality’s crisis and displacement response efforts, with the current intervention targeting approximately 57,000 individuals — representing around 7,000 families.
Izzat Wad Haj, head of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society in Al-Dabba locality, explained that the food basket includes flour, oil, lentils, and salt. He noted that the assistance is intended to help meet essential needs and ease the daily hardships faced by displaced families.
He added that the launch of the operation marks a significant step toward enhancing food security for displaced communities in the locality and reflects ongoing cooperation between humanitarian organizations and government bodies in addressing the growing humanitarian crisis.
Wad Haj also affirmed the commitment of both the Red Crescent and the WFP to continue support efforts and expand coverage to reach as many affected families as possible.
Al-Dabba is currently hosting thousands of displaced people fleeing conflict in El Fasher in North Darfur and several areas in Kordofan. Many are concentrated in camps across the city, most notably Al-Afad camp, the largest displacement site in the area.
