El Fasher, January 31 (Darfur24)
North Darfur State is witnessing a new wave of large-scale displacement, with the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) reaching approximately 127,162, according to recent estimates.
Data show that about 70 percent of the displaced remain within North Darfur State. More than 74,000 IDPs are currently sheltering in El Fasher locality, mostly in rural villages west and north of the city, while around 9,200 IDPs are in Tawila locality.
Meanwhile, other displaced families have moved to different states within the Darfur region, while a significant proportion fled to areas outside Darfur. An estimated 13 percent of IDPs headed to Northern State, 4 percent to Khartoum State, and 3 percent to Al Qadarif State. Smaller numbers, each representing less than 1 percent, were recorded in North Kordofan, Red Sea, Kassala, Al Jazirah, Blue Nile, White Nile, and West Kordofan states.
According to a report by the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) field teams, many of those displaced in El Fasher had previously fled major camps such as Zamzam and Abu Shouk, or other locations within the city during earlier waves of violence, before being forced to flee again following events on October 26, 2025.
The report noted that approximately 75 percent of the newly displaced had already experienced displacement in the past, underscoring the deepening humanitarian crisis and the persistent cycle of repeated displacement in North Darfur.
