Habila, January 28 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese army repelled a violent attack on the city of Habila in South Kordofan State on Tuesday, following clashes on the northern outskirts of the city, according to military sources.
Sources inside Habila told Darfur24 that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) launched a large-scale assault near the city before army units successfully confronted and pushed back the attacking forces.
The sources said fighting continued for a period before the army regained full control of the area, forcing the attackers to retreat and withdraw from the city.
The army had taken control of Habila on Monday after clashes with the RSF and the SPLM, before advancing eastward to break the siege of Dilling via the road linking Dilling, Habila, and the village of Kurtala.
Despite this advance, the city of Dilling remains besieged from three directions — north, south, and west. RSF forces are positioned in the Tayba and Dubeibat areas and near Hamadi, north of Dilling, while the SPLM controls Kuik and surrounding villages in the eastern rural locality south of Dilling, near Kadugli.
Habila lies approximately 46 kilometers from Dilling, along a dirt road that passes through the village of Tukma. It is also connected to Rahad Abu Dakna via a highway passing through Kartala, before extending toward Ambarambita and Abakrshula.
