Nyala, January 28 (Darfur24)

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have demanded large financial transfers in exchange for releasing three teachers detained in Bilel locality, east of Nyala, after accusing them of receiving salaries from the “Port Sudan government,” according to local sources.

The RSF arrested eight residents of Bilel in early January, including three primary and secondary school teachers: Mohammed Bushra, Al-Amin Zarrouq, and Adam Othman.

Three identical sources told Darfur24 that RSF members discovered approximately 86 million Sudanese pounds in the bank accounts of the detained teachers. They reportedly transferred 46 million pounds from the accounts, while attempts to transfer the remaining 40 million failed.

According to the sources, the RSF is demanding the transfer of the remaining amount in exchange for the teachers’ release, warning that if the funds are withdrawn through other means, the detainees will not be freed.
Sources added that the money represents salary payments for primary and secondary school teachers in Bilel locality.

Meanwhile, a family member of one of the detainees told Darfur24 that his relative is elderly and suffers from high blood pressure, raising concerns over his health in detention.

Last year, the RSF in Nyala arrested several teachers, including Al-Fadil Muhammad, on similar charges of receiving teachers’ salaries from Port Sudan.

The RSF has continued to impose strict security measures against teachers who refuse to suspend teaching activities while continuing to receive monthly salaries from the Ministry of Education and Guidance, which operates under the authority of the Sudanese army.
