Al-Junaynah, January 27 (Darfur24)

An emergency measles vaccination campaign was launched on Sunday at Al-Geneina Teaching Hospital in West Darfur State, organized by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with Doctors Without Borders and other health partners.

Doctors Without Borders said the six-day campaign targets children aged between 9 months and 15 years, as an urgent measure to curb the spread of measles, a highly contagious disease that can be fatal.

“The injection was not painful, and now I am protected,” said eight-year-old Shaima, who arrived with her family at the vaccination site in the Al-Safa area. She said she decided to get vaccinated after seeing her family and neighbors receive the shot.

West Darfur has recorded a sharp rise in measles cases in recent months, with Al-Geneina Teaching Hospital receiving around 130 cases per week in its isolation ward. Health officials say the campaign represents a critical step toward containing the outbreak.
