El Fasher, April 15 (Darfur24)

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have arrested a number of women in El Fasher, North Darfur State, over allegations of involvement in looting homes belonging to displaced residents, according to local sources.

Sources told Darfur24 that around 20 women arrived from Nyala in early April, allegedly to carry out looting operations, locally referred to as “shafshafa”, targeting abandoned houses in the city.

According to the sources, the women were seen transporting furniture and household items from homes into vehicles, reportedly in coordination with RSF members. The looted goods were then moved at night toward Nyala.

They added that similar groups have been operating in El Fasher since the RSF took control of key military sites in the city last October, but the latest incident ended with the arrest of the women along with members of the force.

Residents also reported that vehicles loaded with looted items regularly arrive in Nyala during early morning hours, where the goods are distributed across neighborhoods through intermediaries.

Since the escalation of fighting in El Fasher, accusations of widespread looting, including vehicles, agricultural equipment, and household property, have persisted, particularly in areas affected by displacement.
