Abu Zaima, January 26 (Darfur24)

Two sources reported on Saturday that Abu Zaima market, in Hamra Al-Sheikh locality of North Kordofan State, was struck by an aerial attack carried out by a drone, resulting in casualties and property damage.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, told Darfur24 that a drone, believed to belong to the Sudanese army, carried out a heavy strike on the town’s main market, destroying a four-wheel-drive combat vehicle belonging to the Rapid Support Forces that was parked beside a shop. The attack allegedly killed two RSF members and injured two others.

The witness said the raid triggered panic among residents and forced the closure of the market, after goods belonging to street vendors were burned in the blast.

Another eyewitness reported that this was the second such attack on the market in two days, noting that parts of the market had been targeted the previous day as well.

Abu Zaima market serves as a key distribution hub for goods arriving from Northern State to neighboring areas of Darfur and parts of Kordofan.

Since April 2023, Sudan has witnessed intense fighting between the Sudanese army and its allied forces on one side and the Rapid Support Forces on the other, with drones increasingly used in attacks on both civilian and military locations under the control of both parties.
