Zalingei, January 24 (Darfur24)

Thousands of displaced people in the “Five Minutes” camp in Zalingei, Central Darfur State, are facing worsening humanitarian conditions with the onset of winter, amid acute shortages of shelter materials and warm clothing.

Displaced residents told Darfur24 that they urgently need blankets, tarpaulins, and winter clothes, saying that the limited assistance from humanitarian organizations has fallen far short of their needs inside the camp.

A camp elder told Darfur24 that around 8,000 displaced people are living in harsh conditions due to the lack of adequate shelter and clothing. He pointed to an initiative by the Zalingei Women’s Emergency Room, which recently distributed children’s clothing as part of local efforts to support displaced families.

Fatima Al-Hassan, a resident of the camp, said economic hardship prevents displaced families from purchasing winter supplies. She emphasized that while recent aid distributions are crucial, they still fall short of covering all households.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Emergency Room in Zalingei announced the distribution of children’s clothing in the camp. Meanwhile, the Emergency Room in Al-Hamidiya Camp, Block 4, implemented a project to distribute shelter materials to more than 250 families at the Dar Al-Salam and Al-Amal school shelter centers, including blankets, heaters, and winter clothing for children.

Local volunteer groups said the initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to ease the suffering of vulnerable families and strengthen community solidarity amid continuing humanitarian strain.
