Ambarambita, January 23 (Darfur24)
A citizen was killed and others were injured on Wednesday in clashes between herders and farmers in the Ambarambita area of South Kordofan State, following the entry of cattle into an agricultural project, a local witness said.
Musab Al-Ahmar told Darfur24 that herders brought their cattle into a farming project owned by a resident identified only as Hafiz on Tuesday, prompting community members to form a committee to assess damages. He said the dispute was temporarily resolved before the herders returned on Wednesday morning and again drove their cattle into the project.
He explained that renewed tensions escalated into clashes between the herders on one side and the project’s guards and owners on the other, resulting in the death of Ismail Al-Hasab and injuries to several others. No official figure was provided for the number of injured.
Al-Ahmar said workers were present at the project during the incident, and some fled into nearby forests seeking safety as the situation deteriorated, sparking panic in the area and fears of further escalation.
He added that the local security committee deployed to the scene to contain the situation and began procedures to restore calm, without providing details on measures taken or whether any arrests were made.
