Tawila, January 19 (Darfur24)
Local officials reported on Monday that displaced families continue to arrive in large numbers from villages in Korma and Dar al-Salam locality to the town of Tawila, 60 kilometers west of El Fasher in North Darfur State, amid warnings of a looming humanitarian catastrophe due to severe shortages of aid.
Sheikh Adam Ismail, a community leader at the newly established Dabba Nayra camp, told Darfur24 that the camp is receiving daily influxes of displaced people from Korma, Khazan Jadid, and other villages in Dar al-Salam locality, despite what he described as a slow humanitarian response.
He said humanitarian organizations had briefed camp representatives that they are facing resource shortages, in addition to restrictions imposed by local authorities on their operations, which hinder the delivery of assistance to displaced families.
Ismail added that the emergency room previously provided daily meals to displaced residents but stopped at the end of December, significantly worsening living conditions in the camp.
