Al-Tina, January 16 (Darfur24)
Al-Tina, a Sudanese border town with Chad, came under drone attack on Thursday, according to three local sources, as heavy fighting continued for more than a week in nearby areas of North and West Darfur.
A military source in the Sudanese army told Darfur24 that a drone believed to belong to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck an army base at the northeastern entrance of the city and targeted government facilities in the city center in two separate raids. He said no casualties were recorded and that army air defenses intercepted a second drone after it fired shells at abandoned houses.
Local sources confirmed that clashes remain ongoing in the areas of Jarjira, Andro, and Ad Al-Khair, describing repeated hit-and-run attacks between the RSF and the joint force allied with the Sudanese army. A resident told Darfur24 that villages surrounding the battle zones have been largely emptied, with residents fleeing into Chad or seeking refuge in nearby valleys.
In a statement posted Wednesday on its official X account, the United Nations reported that at least 19 civilians were killed and nearly 8,000 people were displaced from Karnoi and surrounding areas following renewed fighting in northwest Darfur.
Karnoi, Ambro, and Al-Tina are considered the last remaining strongholds of the Sudanese army and allied forces in Darfur, after the RSF extended control over most of the region’s major cities, including Al-Fasher last October.
