Cairo, December 18 (Darfur24)

The Egyptian presidency said on Thursday that preserving Sudanese state institutions and preventing any harm to them is a red line for Egypt, warning that Cairo would take “all necessary measures and actions guaranteed by international law and the joint defense agreement” with Sudan to prevent any violation.

The statement was issued during the visit of the Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to Egypt, where he held talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

According to the statement, Egypt reaffirmed its full support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s vision aimed at achieving security, stability, and peace in Sudan.

The presidency said that Egypt considers Sudan’s national security inseparable from its own, stressing that certain red lines “cannot be crossed or compromised” as they directly affect Egyptian national security.

These red lines, the statement said, include preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, protecting its resources and those of the Sudanese people, rejecting the secession of any part of Sudanese territory, and opposing the establishment or recognition of any parallel authorities.

Egypt also reiterated that protecting Sudanese state institutions is a core red line, affirming its right to take all measures necessary under international law and bilateral defense agreements to ensure these lines are not breached.

The statement added that Egypt remains committed to working within the framework of the Quartet to reach a humanitarian truce leading to a ceasefire, including the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors and havens to protect Sudanese civilians.
