Khartoum, December 17 (Darfur24)
Sources in North Darfur reported that the city of Mellit, the town of Fataberno, and parts of the Wadi Hawr area were targeted by drone strikes on Tuesday, in attacks believed to have been carried out by the Sudanese army.
An eyewitness from Mellit, located about one kilometer north of El Fasher, told Darfur24 that a drone struck a four-wheel-drive combat vehicle parked in the main market in the city center, setting it on fire.
The source said the vehicle’s crew survived, while residents fled the market and traders temporarily closed their shops before later resuming activity.
He added that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) imposed restrictions on the use of Starlink satellite internet devices in the market and surrounding areas, and detained several young men, taking them to the southern part of the market.
In a related incident, Fataberno and areas of Wadi Hawr near the town of Kutum were also hit by a separate drone strike. No immediate information was available regarding civilian casualties.
Drone attacks have intensified in areas of Darfur under RSF control, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries in recent months. The most recent major strike occurred last week in Kutum, southwest of Nyala in South Darfur, leaving about 100 people dead and a similar number wounded, according to medical and local sources.
