The Ministry of Health in South Darfur State has reported 13 new confirmed cases of dengue fever out of 19 suspected cases, amid the continued spread of the disease in Nyala and surrounding areas.
According to the ministry, dengue fever began spreading in Nyala and Nyala North localities on October 21. The Department of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control said the newly confirmed cases were recorded in the Al-Sadd Al-Aali neighborhood of Nyala North.
The department explained that the cumulative number of cases in Nyala North locality has reached 233 infections, including one death, while Nyala South locality has recorded 80 cases. One case has also been confirmed in each of Al-Malam and Ad-Darfur localities.
The Emergency Management Department stated that rapid response teams have carried out control activities, including fogging operations and health awareness campaigns, in the Al-Mazad, Al-Sadd Al-Aali, and Al-Tadamun neighborhoods in Nyala.
It added that active case investigation and surveillance are ongoing with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross, while vector-control fogging operations continue with assistance from the organization Alite.
Dengue fever is transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, particularly Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. The disease has spread to several Sudanese states, including Khartoum.
