El Geneina, December 8 (Darfur24)

The governor of West Darfur State, Bahr al-Din Adam Karama, who is currently based in Port Sudan, urged residents on Monday to avoid approaching areas where the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are deployed.

Karama said in a press statement that these locations could become targets of potential military operations in the coming period. He added that the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Air Force view RSF deployment sites as military objectives, putting civilians nearby at serious risk.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to international targeting standards and the rules protecting civilians, stressing that safeguarding the population remains a top priority.

Karama also said security agencies have documented cases in which civilian facilities were converted into military sites, warning that such actions heighten risks for civilians and violate international laws governing the protection of civilian infrastructure.

The governor did not rule out the possibility of large-scale military operations by the armed forces in the region in the near future, aimed at restoring security and stability in West Darfur. He described the upcoming phase as “crucial” for reestablishing stability and the authority of the state.

West Darfur is currently under the control of the RSF, which have established a civilian authority to manage executive functions, along with a constituent assembly that serves as a legislative and oversight body.
