Um Dafuq, December 8 (Darfur24)
Four children were seriously injured in Umm Dafuq, South Darfur State, after a grenade exploded while they were playing with it. The children were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Hamdan Al-Tahir, a resident of the area, told Darfur24 that the children had found the grenade and were handling it when it detonated. He said the blast resulted in severe injuries, including the amputation of one child’s fingers and critical wounds to another who was later transferred to Nyala Hospital.
The director of Umm Dafuq Hospital, Dr. Adam Quraida, confirmed to Darfur24 that one of the children sustained life-threatening injuries, with shrapnel embedded in his neck and chest, prompting his transfer to Nyala for specialized care. Another child underwent surgery to amputate three fingers.
Explosive remnants from the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces continue to claim lives across Darfur, with children being the most affected, amid a near-total absence of healthcare services in the region.
