Damazin, December 8 (Darfur24)
A drone strike on Saturday hit the main power station in Damazin, capital of the Blue Nile region, causing a total blackout across the city.
The attack is part of a series of similar strikes targeting power stations in central and northern Sudan, raising fears that the continued targeting of vital infrastructure will inflict severe damage on civilian life and essential services.
Sources told Darfur24 that the drone struck the old power substation in southeastern Damazin, near the reservoir, triggering a powerful explosion that shook surrounding buildings and sparked panic among residents. The strike immediately cut electricity to all neighborhoods and major public facilities.
Citizens reported that the sudden outage halted daily activities and disrupted essential services, including hospitals, markets, and commercial shops. Many residents rushed out of their homes following the explosion to determine its source, amid growing anxiety over the safety of nearby water and energy infrastructure.
As of Saturday evening, local authorities had not issued any official statement regarding the extent of the damage or the steps being taken to restore power.
