El Fasher, November 29 (Darfur24)

The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) has announced the killing of its bureau chief in El Fasher, North Darfur, Taj Al-Sir Mohamed Suleiman, along with his brother Ezz Al-Din, reportedly at the hands of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a statement published on its official website, SUNA said that RSF elements “executed” the bureau chief and his brother inside their home in the First-Class neighborhood, west of El Fasher.

The agency stated that Suleiman had continued carrying out his media duties until he went missing following the RSF’s entry into the city last October.

The fate of at least five other journalists remains unknown since the RSF seized control of El Fasher. Meanwhile, journalist Muammar Ibrahim was transferred to Nyala after his arrest; he has now been detained for nearly two months.

Two journalists were also killed during the recent fighting in the city. Al-Nur Suleiman, media director in the office of the North Darfur governor, died after being wounded when a drone bombed his house northwest of El Fasher.

In March last year, journalist Khalid Bilal was shot dead when unidentified gunmen stormed his home in the Deim Selk neighborhood, northeast of the city.

According to the latest figures from the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, at least 32 journalists have been killed since the war erupted in April 2023. Ongoing hostilities have forced hundreds of journalists to flee to safer areas within Sudan, while many others have been driven into exile.
