Nyala, November 27 (Darfur24)
Seven people were killed and others wounded in Adal Fursan locality, South Darfur, in a looting incident that escalated into armed clashes between clans of the Bani Halba tribe early this week, according to residents.
Eyewitnesses told Darfur24 that the violence began when an armed group attempted to steal an electric transformer in the Al-Nasr neighborhood late at night. One resident confronted the group and was shot dead as the assailants fled.
According to residents, the victim’s family pursued and detained the suspects. However, while escorting them to the police station, they were ambushed by the suspects’ relatives, resulting in the immediate death of five people. The injured were transferred to the Turkish Hospital in Nyala, where one later died from his wounds.
Darfur24 learned that authorities in Nyala deployed a joint force composed of the Federal Police and the Rapid Support Forces to the area. Sources said several local administration officials and alleged perpetrators were arrested.
Eyewitnesses in Nyala reported seeing federal police vehicles transporting detainees from Adal Fursan, which lies about 86 kilometers southwest of Nyala, the state capital.
Sources added that authorities warned local administration leaders, including mayors and sheikhs, to contain the crisis within 72 hours or face transfer to Daqris Prison.
Meanwhile, residents said mediation efforts led by civil and traditional leaders succeeded in de-escalating the situation on Sunday.
