Port Sudan, November 26(Darfur24) The Sudanese Security and Defense Council announced that it has tasked relevant authorities to respond to the paper submitted by US Presidential Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, regarding negotiations and a ceasefire in the country.
The Security and Defense Council held a meeting Tuesday evening, chaired by the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, during which it discussed international and regional efforts to end the war.
In a statement read by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohi El-Din Salem, the Council affirmed its commitment to the vision previously presented by the Sudanese government to the United Nations and other relevant parties.
The Council also affirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid, opening roads, protecting humanitarian workers, ensuring the delivery of aid to those in need, and keeping border crossings and airports open. It also emphasized its commitment to maintaining the security, stability, and sovereignty of the country.
The Council expressed its gratitude to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Donald Trump for their concern for the Sudanese situation and their desire to achieve a peace that preserves Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.
US envoy Massad Boulos said on Tuesday that the United States had presented the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces with a “well-structured” peace plan, but it was not accepted by either side.
Boulos stated during a press conference in Abu Dhabi that there was no objection to the plan’s content, but the Sudanese army returned with “preconditions” that he described as impossible to implement.
President Donald Trump said last week that he would intervene to stop the devastating conflict that erupted in April 2023, which has led to widespread famine and ethnic killings across Sudan and threatens to cause a second partition of the country.
