Kabkabiya, November 25(Darfur24)

Τhree civilians, including two brothers, were killed this Monday in Kabkabiya, a city located approximately 155 kilometers west of ElFasher in North Darfur State. The civilians were shot by unidentified armed men who intercepted them on their way to the city’s main market, apparently intending to rob them of their phones and money.

Ahmed Suleiman, a relative of the victims, told Darfur24 that unidentified gunmen on motorcycles intercepted the victims as they were leaving the Al-Amiriya neighborhood in the northeast of the city on their way to the market. The gunmen demanded their phones and money, but the victims resisted, prompting the assailants to open fire.

He indicated that the two brothers, Abdul Latif Abdullah Shams Al-Din Turkawi and Abdul Wahab Abdullah Shams Al-Din Turkawi, died instantly, along their friend, Mohammed Abdullah, while the perpetrators fled the scene.

He explained that residents rushed to the crime scene and transported the victims to the hospital. A local vigilante group then pursued the perpetrators and managed to apprehend four of them, recovering the stolen phones and two motorcycles.

Ahmed Mohammed Al-Tayeb, a leader of the local administration in Kabkabiya, confirmed the incident, noting the state of lawlessness that the city has been experiencing for about a month.

He told Darfur24 that the local administration and the Rapid Support Forces, the federal police have failed to curb the recurring crimes and attacks in the city and surrounding areas, he said that Kabkabiya witnessed the killing and wounding of more than six people in the past two weeks without any intervention from the de facto authorities.

The Rapid Support Forces have controlled Kabkabiya since 2023, following limited clashes with the Sudanese army that ended with the Rapid Support Forces taking control of the 21st Kabkabiya Brigade, after which the army withdrew to El Fasher.
