Nyala, November 24 (Darfur24)

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” announced on Monday that he has agreed to a three-month humanitarian truce, presenting it as a step toward ending the war and launching a comprehensive political process.

The announcement comes a day after Sovereignty Council chair and army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan confirmed receiving the latest negotiating proposal from the Quartet mechanism — the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt — aimed at stopping the conflict. The Quartet’s roadmap, released in September, calls for a three-month humanitarian truce leading to a permanent ceasefire and political negotiations.

In a televised address, Hemedti said he accepted a nationwide truce involving a complete halt to hostilities for three months, in response to an initiative by U.S. President Donald Trump and the efforts of the Quartet countries.

He also endorsed the formation of a joint field mechanism composed of representatives from the Quartet, the African Union, and IGAD to monitor implementation of the truce on the ground.

Hemedti said the agreement “marks the first step toward ending hostilities and achieving a comprehensive political solution that addresses the root causes of the Sudanese crisis.”

He pledged to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access, including securing the movement of aid workers, protecting the facilities of national and international organizations, guaranteeing the delivery of assistance to all affected areas, and facilitating the work of medical and relief teams.

He further vowed accountability for violations against civilians, saying investigations are underway and their results will be made public. “No perpetrator will escape justice, regardless of their position or rank,” he said.

Hemedti reiterated his commitment to an inclusive political process open to all parties except the Islamic Movement, the former National Congress Party, and their affiliated fronts.
